2010 Classes at Unique One

January 9:
Class: Learn 2-color knitting
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
Materials you need to bring: Size 7 16-inch circular needles and a set of size 7 double pointed needles; 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn in contrasting colors (about 200 yards for the main color and about 75 yards for contrasting color and practice).
Cost: $30.00 includes lunch, instruction, and a hat pattern

January 16:
All About Yarn -- all you ever wanted to know about yarn but were afraid to ask!! Solve the mysteries of fiber, gauge, plies, grams, and other curious stuff.
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
Materials you need to bring: paper and pencil.
Cost: $30.00 includes lunch, and instruction.

January 23:
Knitting and Purling Continental Style
When: 10 am to 2 pm

Materials you need to bring: scrap yarn and needles suitable in size to work with your yarn

January 30:
Knitting Portuguese Style!
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
Learn to knit the Portuguese way, in which purling is faster than knitting! This class will get you started, and the included DVD will enable you to do ANY knitting technique the Portuguese way, including increasing, decreasing, knitting with beads, and knitting with two colors!Also, learn the Portuguese bind off. Portuguese knitting is different from both American and Continental knitting; it is fast, efficient, and easier on your hands. The DVD will also teach you how to measure your gauge, do Kitchener Stitch, seam with the Mattress Stitch, 3 different ways to cast on and 3 different ways to bind off, and how to join your work into a round.

Materials you need to bring: scrap yarn and needles suitable in size to work with your yarn; optional: bring your laptop, if it can play DVD's.... so you can practice after lunch.
Cost: $65.00 includes lunch, a knitting hook, an instructional DVD on Portuguese knitting techniques, and instruction.

February 6:
Finishing Techniques
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Lord Camden Inn conference room
Instructor: Beth Collins
Materials you need to bring: scrap yarn and needles suitable in size to work with your yarn; tapestry or wool needle for sewing; crochet hook size E or F.Optional: you may also bring a sweater you have ready to put together to get advice or help on.
NOTE: There will be homework to accomplish before you come to class: make four swatches in stockinette stitch approximately 5 inches wide and 3 inches long, so you will have some pieces ready to "put together"; leave the stitches on a stitch holder or on a piece of yarn, do not bind them off.
Cost: $30.00 includes lunch, and instruction.

February 13:
Knitting Socks
When: 10 am to 4 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
Materials you need to bring: 300 yards of worsted weight yarn; size 5 double pointed needles; tape measure or ruler.
Cost: $45.00 includes lunch, pattern, and instruction.

March 6:
Knitting Lace, Part 1
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
Materials you need to bring: 150 yards fingering/sock yarn; size 5 needle; stitch markers; row counter or paper and pencil. Optional: an additional 400 yards of sock yarn if you want to make a second slightly more advanced scarf after you finish the first one, or if you have already done a little lace knitting and want to jump right into the second scarf.
Cost: $65.00 for 2 days of classes; each day includes lunch, lace pattern, and instruction.

March 13:
Tubular Cast On and Bind Off
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs

Materials you need to bring: scrap yarn and needles suitable in size to work with your yarn; tapestry needle.
Cost: $30.00 includes lunch, and instruction.

March 20:
Knitting Lace Part 2
When: 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cappy's, in the Crow's Nest upstairs
Instructor: Beth Collins
This is the second half of the Knitting Lace class. Lunch is included on both days of your class.

Unique One Weekly Knitting Groups -- Free and Open to the Public!

Like to knit? Please join in one of our weekly knitting groups, held at Unique One:

Our knitting circle meets Wednesdays, 6 to 8 p.m and Thursdays, also 6 to 8 pm. Both groups are social opportunities to meet with other knitters to share knitting skills, ask questions, get a little help when you need it. ALL levels of knitters are welcome and can be seen in both groups, and one can also attend either group as a beginner and learn to knit.

No registration or fee is necessary to attend these groups; just show up some time during the meeting and you'll get helped in the order that questions are asked. Or, just come hang out and knit with us!
